About this policy
This policy covers the Painting Desk app for iPhone and iPad and this website. "We" and "us" mean the developer of Painting Desk. If anything here is unclear, email support@paintingdesk.app.
What Painting Desk stores
Only what you put into it: your kits with their stages, dates and notes; your paints and how much is left in each pot; your recipes; your shopping list; your painting sessions; your settings; and a thumbnail of each photo.
It is kept on your device. If you're signed in to iCloud, it is also kept in your private iCloud database, so your iPhone and iPad stay in step. That database belongs to your Apple Account: Apple stores it, and we cannot read it.
The camera and your photos
Painting Desk uses the camera to photograph your models, and to read paint labels and barcodes when you scan pots. Reading a label happens on the device.
Photos you take are saved to your Photos library, in an album called Painting Desk, and the app keeps a thumbnail and a reference to each. Painting Desk only opens the photos it saved or the ones you choose to import. If you don't allow access to your library, Painting Desk keeps the photos itself, on your device and in your iCloud. No photo is ever sent to us.
Sharing and reminders
- When you share a web page to Painting Desk, it reads the page's title and address so you can add it to your list. That happens on the device.
- If you turn on reminders, they are scheduled on your device.
What we don't collect
Painting Desk makes no network requests of its own, and there is no server for it to talk to. There are no analytics, no crash-reporting service, no advertising identifier and no tracking. We don't sell or share personal information, because we don't have any.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports. You can turn that off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
App recommendations
The Desk may show one small card recommending another independent app, delivered by Kickstart Exchange. It is not a targeted advert and it does not track you:
- To choose a recommendation, the app sends only app-level details: the app and SDK versions, platform and App Store country. Nothing that identifies you or your device.
- To check the request comes from a genuine copy of Painting Desk, the app also sends Apple's signed proof of the install. Kickstart Exchange checks it and does not keep it.
- Kickstart Exchange records whether a recommendation was shown or tapped, without identifying you or your device, and keeps those records for about 30 days.
- Nothing is used to track you across other apps or websites.
Apple
iCloud, Photos and the App Store are Apple services, covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Emailing us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you send. We use it only to reply, and keep it no longer than we need to help you.
This website
No cookies and no analytics. The site is hosted by Netlify, and its pages load a typeface from Google Fonts and a style library from Tailwind's CDN. Like any web server, these see your IP address so they can deliver the page.
Your choices
- Export everything at any time from Settings › Your data in the app.
- Deleting Painting Desk removes everything it stored on that device. To remove the synced copy too, delete Painting Desk's data from iCloud storage in your device's Settings.
- Photos in your library stay there until you delete them.
- Camera, Photos and notification access can be changed at any time in your device's Settings.
- To ask about anything we hold, which in practice means support emails, write to us.
Children
Painting Desk doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included.
